Loan Repayment Calculator 1.8

This calculator shows you how long it will take to repay a loan. Enter the initial loan amount, the annual interest rate (APR), and the amount to be repaid each month.

It will also tell you if your proposed monthly repayment will never repay the loan amount (because the interest charged exceeds the repayment).

One difference between this calculator and most others is that it updates immediately a field is changed, ie. you don't need to fill in all fields and then press a 'calculate' button. This makes it easy to experiment with interest rate or monthly repayment changes.

The first time you run the app you will be asked to select your preferred currency symbol - currently US dollar, UK pound and European euro are supported.

New in v1.8
The results panel formats numbers according to the locale selected when the app was installed. For example if US was selected at installation time, $797380.99 will now display as $797,380.89

New in v1.7
When a long running calculation is in progress, a revolving 'cancel' button is displayed. For real life situations you probably never want to see this button as it represents a repayment term of at least 150 years! But it's fun to play with loans that would take thousands or even millions of years to repay - good luck asking Goldman Sachs et al for the loan!

New in v1.6:
One or two users reported the app had hung when in fact it was executing a loop that would have eventually completed. Try this on a pre v1.6 version with Loan Amount 3000.00, Interest Rate 0.0 and Repay / Month 0.001. The display will freeze (no blinking cursor), without the '1' in the Repayment field appearing On my 'classic' Galaxy Tab I eventually receive an 'Application Not Responding - close, wait, report' message. If I don't panic and tap 'wait', the app will eventually complete (after executing its main loop 3 million times), the display will unfreeze and report the loan will be repaid in 250000 years!

In v1.6 the main loop is executed in chunks the display being updated after each chunk to display the computed number of months so far. In the next version a button will be displayed allowing the calculation to be aborted (most people - and certainly the banks - are not interested in loans that will take hundreds or thousands of years to repay)!

From v1.2 it also tells you how much interest you will pay on your loan.

From v1.4 the app can be moved to the external SD card to conserve internal memory space.

NB: This app runs on top of the Adobe Android AIR runtime. If not already installed on your device, you will be prompted to install it when you first run this app. Adobe AIR is the standalone version of Adobe Flash Player that serves you rich multimedia content every time you browse the web.

Msg to Hammad: Sorry you don't like the UI (lots of others do). The 'live' keyboard (change a field and everything updates, without having to tap a 'calculate' key), IMHO makes the calculator very easy to use. Can you email me and let me know what you don't like? Your comment isn't very specific. Also are you using the latest version of Adobe AIR (the app runs on top of AIR). Although the app is really free (no adds etc.), I still want users to be happy.
